Organization's that promote a product, service or idea are always looking for ways to make things better. Leaders need to have organization's that support them, and they also need to be supported by those same organization's in their efforts to improve the company's mission and objective.
This month, we will look at things leaders can do to create a better organization for all involved parties. When an organization operates efficently and effectively, moral is up, productivity increases and the organization operates at its peak. As leaders, we have the bulk of the responsibility and pleasure of creating better organizations through our leadership skills, management abilities and the charisma of connecting to those we serve.
Over the course of this month, we will examine 25 Things Leaders Can Do To Create A Better Organization, examining one per day. Please offer any additional insight, input or other points of leadership that you may have that pertain to these view points. As iron sharpeneths iron, so we must sharpen one another.
Looking forward to hearing from you and sharing with you! Here goes:
1. Lead By Example
To those we serve, it is vital that they see not only their leaders as tangible, approachable people, but that they also see that we are in fact very much like them. Although we are leaders and we are inherently different in many ways, when we show those that follow us that we too can and are willing to do what they do on a daily basis, we connect with them in many ways that are hard to articulate.
Leading by example is so much more than just barking out orders or being overly critical of our staff. When we leade by example, we actually do the work, proving to others that we are willing to learn and to be teachable. Don't worry - you won't be perceived as being a weak leader just because you show your human, sensitive side. Your leadership skills will increase even more.
How do you lead by example? What do you do to show those under you that you understand them?
