People who are in leadership and high profile positions should always be mindful that they are always being watched. Always. People watch leaders for a variety of reasons:
- They want to mimic their behavior
- They want to do the opposite of the behavior they see
Today I got a call from a businesswoman who wanted to sit in on our weekly Toastmaster’s meeting and observe how we conduct business. While we readily welcome and embrace new members, we also encourage visitors to attend other club’s and get a feel for their style and personality. It’s important for the potential member to do this since they will be spending a significant amount of time with their club members. Leaders within the Toastmaster’s organization, or any other organization for that matter, have to be mindful of those that are around them who are watching their behavior and how they exhibit leadership traits.
Are you mindful at all times of how you portray your leadership style? Do you make careful steps to show your “good side”?
