Flip Flippen’s new book, The Flip Side, shows how we fail because we miss, or underestimate the daily constraints that hold us back.
The interesting process laid out in Flip’s pages, suggest three constraint busting ideas for growth…
Each tactic starts with a question to highlight its opposite. For example, Flip asks...![]()
1. Resistant to change? Ensure the first reaction brings positive and enthusiastic responses – regardless of nay sayers.
2. Too nurturing? Show and hold to consequences and accountability. Remember to say no at times.
3. Too critical or harsh? Refrain from offering feedback when none is requested. Try one day at a time – where not one complaint is spoken to anybody - and then track your results. See any differences in people's responses to you?
4. Not nurturing enough? Smile and go out of your way to engage the next person you meet. Email an encouragement or give a compliment before the sun goes down today – as a way to get started with your new pattern.
While you may have discovered your strengths, it is often your personal constraints that limit your own success as well as that of your organization. Flip reminds readers, for instance, that what you are not working on, may be far riskier to your advancement than you know.
Do you agree with Flip that weaknesses could become newfound strengths?
