I’ll admit my bias up front because I lived in China and I taught Chinese leaders brain based practices, and I learned deeply from their friendship and their leadership acumen. That said, I saw in Yahoo News this morning glaring opportunities for growth between Chinese leaders US leaders – through Chinese food export problems.
Do you see a wide open widow for communication between the two countries here? The US sits with strong safety measures and highly developed sta
ndards … and China … as a developing country … sits with lots of talent to learn new safety approaches to investigate? Think of the amazing opportunity that exists for US leadership….
Without question, it’s especially sad that dogs and cats died in the US through pet food containing gluten from China. It’s unfortunate that pet food arrived in our borders, that was tainted with the toxic chemical melamine. Nevertheless, it’s also true that food purity problems could very well open new opportunities at this time for collaborating with China on an improved approach for world trade. Let’s seize the moment together.
Rather than see this problem as a risk of food purity in the US – why not view it as a chance to build food safety programs that benefit both countries? With China’s increasing roles in global trade, and US needs for better global communication – we could build goodwill through helping Chinese industries to create food safety regulation infrastructures.
It takes brains to offer real solutions where problems pop up to violate standards set by the US Department of Agriculture and the US Food and Administration. It’s also clear from all we read that China is working to create an improved export supply chain. So why not help them to achieve their goals? What an amazing opportunity to set an original model for alliance in motion - one for global cooperation and US support – beyond our own borders - for building a better world.
The opportunity here is very real – and the tainted pet food scandal increases our urgency to step in as an advocate of global goodwill – rather than a critic of China. Any takers?
