In reading the five qualities he listed, I thought to myself that these are traits that any leader should develop. It made me wonder if we need separate lists for leadership for men versus leadership for women.
I am sure that the core qualities that define a leader are not based on the gender of the leader. However to develop leadership, may require different focus for men versus women.
I can only speak from the male perspective but through my own reading, research, personal acquaintances and experience, I think men and women can and should do some things differently to develop leadership. I say this because I believe, rightly or wrongly, that the market demands and expectations for men are different than for women. Women face different challenges, bias and often discrimination that men must not face.
What do I know about this? Not much. I have written about women’s leadership before I think it is important to identify good resources that are available. Sadly, if you search for “womens leadership” in Technorati, my post from 72 days ago about a symposium on women’s leadership stands as the 5th most recent post. I would invite women leaders to weigh in on this and offer additional (and relevant) insight. And I thank Gary for getting another thread started.
